Superior softness and ductility of jMedtech hydrophilic coating
Back to list

Interventional catheters often have irregular geometric shapes due to the requirements of practical applications. The requirements for hydrophilic coatings of such catheters will be more stringent. Hydrophilic coating should not only have good lubricity and firmness, but also have good softness and ductility, the hydrophilic coating independently developed by jMedtech The layer can well meet the needs of this type of catheter. This article mainly introduces and tests the softness and ductility of jMedtech hydrophilic coating coated on the surface of commonly used polymer substrates (such as Pebax, PVC, TPU and PE).

The hydrophilic coated catheters used below have been stained with Congo red, and the integrity of the coating can be clearly observed under a microscope.

1. Pebax catheter

Wrap the Pebax catheter coated with jMedtech's hydrophilic coating several times around a cylinder with a diameter of 4mm as shown in the figure below, unfold the catheter and straighten it, and observe the integrity of the coating on the catheter surface.

It can be observed that the catheter is twisted and bent as shown in the above figure, and its surface is intact, and the coating has no cracking, peeling, falling off, etc..

Magnify 20 times under the microscope to observe the changes on the surface of the catheter before and after the experiment:

Observed under a microscope, the coating on the surface of the Pebax catheter is also intact, without coating cracking, peeling, peeling, etc., indicating that the coated hydrophilic coating has excellent softness and ductility.

2. PVC conduit

Wrap the PVC catheter coated with jMedtech's hydrophilic coating around a cylinder with a diameter of 4mm several times as shown in the figure below, then unfold the catheter to straighten it, and observe the integrity of the coating on the catheter surface.

It can be observed that the catheter is twisted and bent as shown in the picture above, and its surface is intact, and the coating is not cracked, peeled off, or peeled off.

Magnify 20 times under the microscope to observe the changes on the surface of the catheter before and after the experiment:

Under the microscope, the surface appearance of the PVC catheter coating is basically the same before and after winding and bending, and the coating has not been damaged by the experimental operation, and the coating remains intact without cracking, peeling, falling off, etc., indicating that the coating is soft Strong and extensible.

3. TPU catheter

Wrap the TPU catheter coated with jMedtech's hydrophilic coating around a cylinder with a diameter of 4mm several times as shown in the figure below, and then unfold the catheter to straighten it to observe the integrity of the coating on the catheter surface.

5(1).png

Operate as shown in the above figure, The surface of the TPU catheter is intact and smooth, and the coating has no cracking, peeling, falling off, etc..

Magnify 20 times under the microscope to observe the changes on the surface of the catheter before and after the experiment:

6(1).png

Under the microscope, the TPU catheter coating still shows completeness, without coating cracking, peeling, falling off, etc., which also shows that the coating has good flexibility and ductility.

4. PE catheter

Compared with the first three catheters, PE catheters are harder and less flexible. We can still test the ductility or flexibility of the surface coating through experiments. Bend the PE catheter into a closed loop as shown in the figure below, and observe the integrity of its surface coating.

7(1).png

After the operation shown in the above figure, direct observation of the PE catheter with the naked eye shows that the coating surface is intact, without cracking, peeling, falling off, etc..

Magnify 20 times under the microscope to observe the changes on the surface of the catheter before and after the experiment:

8(1).png

Observed under the microscope, the surface coating of the PE catheter can still remain intact, and there is no coating cracking, peeling, peeling, etc., which fully demonstrates that the coated hydrophilic coating has excellent flexibility and ductility sex.

Through the above bending and winding experiments on the four material catheters (Pebax, PVC, TPU and PE), we observed that The water coating is coated on the surface of these common polymer substrates, and the surface coating will not crack, peel or fall off when they are bent, wound and other deformation operations, thanks to the excellent softness and ductility of the coating itself Sex.
